Didn’t We Know They’d Make More Seats Available?

By: Laurie | March 2nd, 2009

Remember the other day when I was reflecting on whether Seattle would really stick to the 24,500 seat “lower bowl only” policy in case of sellouts?

We now have an answer, and it is…kind of.

Seems they’re not opening the upper bowl, but they’re changing the seating configuration and adding more seats in the lower bowl. Whatever that means. For the season opener, there will be 32,400 seats available. For home games after that, it will be 27,700 tickets per game.

They’re also capping season tickets at 22,000, so there will at least be some single-ticket sales for the other home games.

This seems like a good compromise between meeting the demand, making the money, and keeping the promise to MLS and fans to not let the atmosphere and ambiance get lost in a monster stadium.

Now if we can just get the Sounders folks to staff their phone lines and answer their emails, we’ll be off to a pretty good start.
