Why he’s not coming:

1. Henry is not past his prime and can still dominate in Europe.

2. Seattle doesn’t need to prop itself up on one star and pin dreams of titles on his talent.

I have no problem with the MLS becoming the pre-geriatric league for European players that can still play but just not at their former levels. Lets get Figo too!

While I won’t hold my breath about someone like Henry coming to Seattle I am cautiously optimistic. First he has enough left in the tank to be an utterly dominant goal scorer in MLS. A player like Henry could really put on some highlight reel displays and raise the profile of MLS. I don’t really like the idea of Americans coming back from Europe to play in MLS, frankly even on a team in the Coca-Cola Championship they’ll be facing better competition and raising their skill level for International Play, which at this point I think is more important. Getting European stars, even fading ones, will do more for MLS in terms of getting futbol fans interested in the domestic league.

I have to say, though, luring Thierry Henry for a year or two is the only good reason to keep the Sonics that I’ve heard.

I like the idea of importing the American talent from Fulham, but I think for marketing purposes those two guys (Roth and Allen) want to bring a name that will attract crowds and add to the already impressive amount of Season Ticket deposits. Thanks for your comments though.

yea, likin the henry caption too. he loves american sports but I wonder how he’ll take the news that the sonics may be leaving seattle. thierry is a big bball fan so he might not like that! maybe it can be kept a secret… along with the weather.

Hmmm, I truly underestimate the chances of a player of his class, Henry coming to the United States. He’s still on a team that has the chance to still win their league title and Champions League. The Seattle team focus should be on relegated doom Fulham who has plenty of known American talent.
