The Freddie Ljungberg Song, Sung to the Tune of “Oh My Darling, Clementine”
By: Laurie | August 29th, 2009
What can we say about this game? Um…. Let’s see. Maybe the word nerds among us could give a complete conjugation of the verb “To Suck”?
Or we could write a song dedicated to our argumentative Designated Player, who will be missing the next game due to yellow card accumulation because he just Could. Not. Shut. His. Effing. Mouth.
(FYI, I believe “Lju” is pronounced “Lyooo.”)
The Freddie Ljungberg Card Accumulation Song
Sung to the tune of “Oh My Darling, Clementine.”
You must whine and you must argue
and you cannot shut your trap
now you’re taking a vacation
and the team will play like crap
CHORUS:
Shut the F*** up, Shut the F*** up
Shut the F*** up Freddie Lju
There’s a ref’ree with a red card
and he’s waiting just for you.
Now the team could miss the playoffs
And you know they’re gonna blame
the Swedish guy who couldn’t shut up
Freddie Ljungberg is his name
CHORUS

I was at the game and forgot to DVR it… is THAT why he got the card? It looked like we got screwed on that whole exchange from where I was sitting, but I was up in club on the opposite side of the field.

Ljungberg got a card for putting himself in a situation where he doesn’t belong. He traveled across the field to engage and aggravate a situation which was already very tense. In contrast Keller came over and helped the situation and tried to calm people down.
It’s a rule of thumb with referees if you travel a long long way just to scold the referee or confront a player in this sort of situation, you get a yellow card. Ljungberg was essentially being a nuisance, just making things worse.

What the hell is the matter with the guy? Even his own teammates are trying to shut him up. Is he pandering to the crowd or something? He’s just making himself more and more of a target.

Very nice! And we have nearly three weeks to learn it (when Freddie returns for the Chivas game)
