The Galaxy FO Shows Us How Seattle Could Have Hosed the Fans for Playoff Tickets

By: Laurie | October 27th, 2009

ka chingWith all our talk about ticket prices, and about teams valuing the fans, I thought you’d appreciate this comment left on our Galaxy blog.

What’s happened in SoCal is that the #1 team in the West, the LA Galaxy, just happened to draw the #4 team, Chivas USA. As you know, the teams share a home stadium. And both teams are separately selling tickets to the playoff matches.

A comment from “ralphyboy” shows us how the kid brother team Chivas’ playoff prices compare to those of Beckham’s team, the Galaxy:

I too went through Chivas for 2 seats sect 134 first row-$52. Through ticketmaster or galaxy they were $163! I know I’ll be surrounded by Chivas fans, so I’ll be wearing my LAG gear, hopefully one of you will have my back when I stand up and cheer our first goal!

Wow. Makes me realize how much Seattle could have jacked up the prices. Yet they took just an extra $5.

I love our management.

Wow. What a rip off. And after everyone reads his comment, I think there will be considerably more Galaxy fans in the Chivas section.

yeah, and that $5 raise was forced upon the tickets because the FO had to use the ticketmaster service to sell the tickets due to the short turn around. More than worth it.

To be fair, we can’t be sure that SSFC FO wouldn’t have raised prices a bit more if we had 2 local teams playing in Qwest. But still… wow.

Laurie, why must you knock us down?! :)

Chivas USA has cheap ticket prices because they can barely get 10K to their games as it is! LAG didn’t raise their prices for the playoffs, and the seats that Ralphyboy is referring to are midfield-ish seats (first row though, so you can be assured of getting a Landon Donovan *HIGH FIVE* right after the game), which normally run $75 a pop anyways (so $75 + $6.50 for Ticketmaster x 2 = $163).

Plus, when you’re the BEST TEAM in the Western Conference, your tickets are in high demand, which means higher prices…

So basically what you’re telling me, Colin, is that it’s not a playoff thing. AEG is greedy year-round. ;-)

My fifth-row midfield seats are $35. $40 for the playoffs (and that boost just because of ticketbastard.)

You know what it is about the Galaxy, though? Beckham still pisses me off. He doesn’t care about the league, so he doesn’t deserve the Cup. The end.

If not for Beckham, if it wasn’t Seattle winning I’d be okay with it being LA. Now, though, not so much.

Haha yes, AEG is greedy year-round. Welcome to LA.

Beckham’s performances this year have actually been really great, compared to previous years. His work rate has been terrific, and I think his addition in July really helped push the Galaxy from a playoff team to 1st place in the West.

Also, while this excuse only goes so far, LA has a higher cost of living than Seattle. The Chivas USA anomaly sorta disputes my logic, but most sports teams in LA have higher ticket prices than the rest of their respective league (with the exception of NY).

    GO GALAXY!
