We’re Number 1! (In both standings and attendance)
By: Laurie | March 29th, 2009
Three sets of numbers you’ll want to take a look at:
First, the current MLS standings, post-Week 2. We are sitting at the top, tied with Chivas on points (six each) but ahead on what I’m assuming is goal differential. (Eventually I’ll research this. I think top tiebreak is head-to-head, which is obviously irrelevant when two teams haven’t met. After that I believe it’s GD.)
Also, please note that the only two undefeated teams are in the Western Conference. So take that, all you Western haters.
*********
Second and third: The MLS attendance figures for Week 1 and Week 2.
Week 1:
03/19 New York Red Bulls @ Seattle Sounders FC 32,523
03/22 D.C. United @ Los Angeles Galaxy 18,013
03/21 Colorado Rapids @ Chivas USA 16,453
03/21 Columbus Crew @ Houston Dynamo 16,053
03/21 Chicago Fire @ FC Dallas 15,905
03/21 Toronto FC @ Kansas City Wizards 10,385
03/21 New England Revolution @ San Jose Earthquakes 10,335
Weekly Total 119,667
Average 17,095.29
Week 2
03/28 Real Salt Lake @ Seattle Sounders FC 28,548
03/28 Chicago Fire @ D.C. United 15,895
03/28 Toronto FC @ Columbus Crew 14,686
03/28 New England Revolution @ New York Red Bulls 12,462
03/28 Kansas City Wizards @ Colorado Rapids 11,885
03/28 Houston Dynamo @ San Jose Earthquakes 9,177
03/29 Chivas USA @ FC Dallas 6,524
Weekly Average 13,236.14
Year-To-Date Average 15,165.71
Wow. No wonder Commish Don Garber got tears in his eyes when he came to Seattle.

You deserve number one in all those categories, Laurie. I watched the highlights when I got home from the Earthquakes and Dynamo game (a great game, by the way.) What I saw on the highlights from Seattle was a hard fought game with amazing energy from the crowd. If Seattle can keep that kind of spirit going up there, it will be tough for any team that heads in there. Also, I have been a huge Fulham fan for years, and I have to hand it to Keller. He stopped some tough shots from RSL. If he keeps playing at that high level and the Freddies on Seattle can stick some balls in the net regularly, then there is not a team in the league that Seattle can’t stand toe-to toe with.

“The Freddies.”
I’m going to use that.

Thought I would come over and look in a team that actually scores goals instead of just hitting the goal! Man FCD is making me balder than I already am.

And these numbers aren’t helping, are they, Scott? Sorry.
Except not really. Except perhaps in the mildest of “I don’t like our Offside bloggers to feel bad” kind of ways.

Laurie, if TFC had a larger capacity stadium Seattle’s numbers would easily be cast aside.
Still though, kudos to you guys for doing so well thus far both on and off the pitch.

Anthony and Jay, what’s really funny is that a few days back I was thinking, “After they play their first away game, they’re REALLY going to appreciate the fans!” and then I checked the schedule and saw that their first away game is against Toronto.
So after their SECOND away game they’ll really appreciate us.
