Which of you got up this morning, saw that there are at least six suspected cases of swine flu locally, saw that the WHO had raised the threat to “pandemic imminent” levels, saw that Madrona Elementary has been closed “as a precaution” and thought…

DAMMIT! They’d better not cancel any Sounders games because of this!

  Yeah, that’s pretty much what I thought, too. And I also hoped that we’re not all sick/dead in a few weeks, since I’m going to Denver for that game. These are my main thoughts.

  I hope they don’t cancel the games . They could play without public, just like the Mexican league plans to do next weekend, although I doubt it.

  I wish the WHO had picked some less loaded word than pandemic. I can’t think of what that word will be, but there’s a huge amount of room in Phases 5 & 6 for anything from a flu that hits cities in two separate regions (the technical definition) to The Stand or Outbreak. The latter is what most people think of when they hear “pandemic” and that helps to fuel panic.

  But, yeah, I really hope no Sounders games are canceled. If the human race is going to be wiped out in a plague, I want us to be as close to the top of the league as possible when we go.

  This made me laugh. I’m thinking about doing a “Comment of the Week” section on the main page when I’m doing weekends. You may be my first entry.

  Also, my son is in Jr. High and just discovered Stephen King (writer, not midfielder.) I told him that this would probably not be the best week to start “The Stand.”
